After a thorough assessment of the existing bathroom, we proposed a full strip-out renovation, removing everything so we could start fresh and ensure every element of the new wet room would function perfectly.
We began by removing all existing fixtures, flooring, and outdated pipework. This gave us a clean slate to work with and allowed us to assess and address the structural issues with the floor.
The electrical work was extensive but essential for a functional wet room. We tested the existing shower supply to ensure it was safe and adequate, installed a new extractor fan to improve ventilation and reduce moisture build-up, and added a new ceiling light for better visibility. We also prepared proper electrical supply for an illuminated cabinet, ensuring the room would be well-lit and functional.
Comprehensive Plumbing Renewal
The plumbing system needed a complete overhaul. We removed all old pipework and waste connections and installed new, efficient systems specifically designed for the client’s chosen G&M sanitary ware. A significant improvement was taking the extra step of chasing pipework into the walls and redirecting radiator supplies that previously came up through the floor. This created a cleaner, more streamlined appearance with no exposed pipes, instantly modernising the space.
Floor Correction and Drainage Solutions
The floor was perhaps the most critical element of the renovation. We professionally regraded the existing wetroom floor to create the correct slope and installed a new wetroom waste gully in the optimal position. These improvements ensured water would properly flow away rather than pool, creating the foundation for a true wetroom experience that was both functional and enjoyable.
With the structural elements addressed, we focused on making the wetroom both safe and long-lasting. We installed Altro anti-slip flooring throughout the entire space, complete with:
- H trims for clean transitions
- Professional coving for a water-tight finish
- Seamless integration with the walls
To make the most of the available space, we reversed and rehung the existing door to improve the room’s flow. We made good all surrounding areas affected by the door modification and repainted the door frame to complement the new design scheme.
Professional Waterproofing and Tiling
We also installed a professional tanking kit around the shower area, creating a fully waterproof zone to protect the property from moisture. We then fully tiled all walls with the client’s chosen tiles, achieving a stylish, water-resistant finish throughout that complemented the overall design aesthetic.
The final phase brought everything together with the installation of:
- The customer’s electric shower
- G&M supplied shower screen
- Space-saving corner WC
- Modern basin unit and cabinet
We ensured all fixtures were perfectly positioned and functioning correctly before considering the project complete.
Before the handover, we thoroughly sealed all necessary areas to prevent water ingress and conducted a comprehensive clean-up of the site.
